“Against Federer’s slicing thrusts and delicate angles he looked as...”
– Discussing the Tsonga/Federer match here. I rarely laugh at sports commentary, but this works for me, especially since my boss is Italian.

CBC: Khadr repatriation overturned by Supreme... →
areminder: blownspeakers: Sorry, kid. Actually, this whole shit show has taken so long, I guess he’s not really a “kid” anymore. This whole situation has been ridiculous and I can’t believe it’s still going on. 15 year old held for 8 years without trial, and his government won’t help. This is disgusting.

…and now, because of the fall out over the bike, she doesn’t even want to ride the fucking thing. I am so fucking sick of this shit. And it’s not even my fucking fight, and I can’t do anything in it or about it. They’ve all done a great job of getting angry at each other, and none of them will want to be the one to pick up the pieces. AGAIN.

shaneharley: ah, i just budgeted for the year. i sort out money way too often, and even record all my spending so i can see where my money goes. i should have been an accountant haha. I just started my Chartered Accountancy, and trust me, it’s a lot more than just budgeting. If you’re good at it there’s still time to become a mum though!

Went to an address advertising free bikes
There were no bikes left (I was about 6 hours too late) but I did pick up a sweet polka-dot cycling cap (white on black) and a highly useful colander (I didn’t have one). Yay! Also, reacquainted myself with my mountain bike that I haven’t ridden in about 4 years, and the ridiculous grip that comes with those knobbly tyres.

Equation of friday afternoon
Kickboxing = incredibly fun Barefoot Radler = “phenomenally refreshing” Cool showers on hot afternoons = incredibly refreshing Therefore, assuming that effects are multiplicative (not additive), having a radler in the shower after kickboxing works out like this: = (kickboxing)(Radler)(Shower) = (incredibly fun)(phenomenally refreshing)(incredibly refreshing) = (incredibly...

thommo: I swear to god, and i cant explain it, but canon cameras have a shallower depth of field than nikons….Currently liking it when Mome Raths hits his focus :P Which, we can all admit, as about as often as a certain much derided local photographer hits his exposure at gigs :P

Financial crisis
Katie and have been having a running disagreement over the last week. She wants to get a motorbike (which I approve of) but, given that she’s complaining that she can’t even afford parking at the moment and will have to catch the bus to work next week and that she has no time for anything, I don’t think it’s prudent to extend the loan over and above the amount she’s...

Strobist: Know Your Sync →
This article explains exactly what the hell has been happening with some of the shots on my 5DII, as the theoretical sync speed is 1/250 but to get a frame with no banding I need to shoot at either 1/200 or even 1/160. A happy boy this does not make me, but at least it’s not just my camera.
